We would like to invite interested openstack operators from the NRENs community to attend a face to face Openstack Operators meeting in Rome on October 17-18, 2016.

The WS is intended to be a specific session of the Openstack Operators meet up, which since GN3+, continuing in GN4.2, is coordinating informally NRENs openstack operators on all openstack-related matters.

The main goal of the WS is the identification of the current level of integration between Identity Federations, Trust & Identity technologies, and Openstack.

We aim at identifying solutions to fill the gap between what is available and what is still missing and required, under several perspectives related to the provisioning of Cloud services in the R&E domain.

The WS will span several aspects of federated identity management within Openstack:   identification and description of R&E community specific Use Cases.  Technological gaps within an integrated approach and best practices will be discussed. We will share hands-on experience, involving cloud and identity federations operators. We will try to look at how federation technologies for hybrid and private clouds will evolve in the near future, emphasizing not only on ease of access for end users but also on authorization models for cloud administrators and multi-homed cross-institutional virtual organizations, keeping in mind the requirements of the the REFEDS community model and emerging non SAML protocols like OAuth2 and OIDC.

Finally, we will compare experiences and expectations on automation and monitoring strategies under the umbrella of the more and more relevant DevOps philosophy applied to Cloud services delivering.

Candidate topics  which will be discussed at the workshop include the following:

  1. Use Cases around integration of T&I/Federations with the Openstack cloud platform
  2. Integration of SAML-based technologies in the provisioning and consuming of Openstack based Cloud Services
  3. Architectural approaches and actual solutions developed so far to include T & I tools and technologies within the Openstack services
  4. Currently available and missing features required by the community of cloud operators
  5. Critical issues and commonly shared needs around integrated usage of T&I tools and Openstack
  6. Coordination of the community involved in the domain and maximization of the effectiveness of its feedback  towards Openstack developments
